Not only is WhatsApp's popularity among the people I know unfortunate, but their loyalty is so high that if Meta goes down, people install Telegram or Signal, only to return as soon as WhatsApp shows signs of life.
Even when WhatsApp does its best to be annoying, for example, muting a group doesn't always work with group calls, and there isn't even the option to set a different ringtone, such as a silent MP3.
