This is a magical place, the cave of Covadonga, in Asturias, northern Spain. It is the place where the new European civilization began after the fall of the Roman Empire.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe was completely divided, and in just 15 years, the Muslims invaded the entire Iberian Peninsula, what is now Spain. But in a remote place in northern Spain, in Covadonga, Don Pelayo, king of Asturias, stood up to the Muslims from the cave of Covadonga and won the battle. From then on, a war began that lasted 800 years until the Muslims were finally expelled from Spain. This was called the Reconquista.
