if a steering group wants to run with the term i’d be happy to hand over the domain, provided we have agreement on general vibe and direction. i’d like it to feel light, clean, a bit informal, normie-friendly, enthusiast-inspiring, and sort of like it was always there

anyway that was my thinking process, i hope that’s useful to someone i think the website could use some work and reduce external links (i feel a bit uncomfortable linking to my blog) but im not gonna do that work myself

also technically if AT gets through IETF i’d say it’s “internet” handle alright. what do you think I stands for

my hesitation with “AT handle” is that it doesn’t convey the paradox directly inside. whereas “internet handle” is weird and paradoxical so you have to find out what it is. which is exactly what i’d want at this point. if you can’t avoid a “what’s that” moment, make it worth the click

in long term i think hijacking at-handle to mean “AT handle” is best. someday just “handle”. for now i like either “internet handle” or “web handle” because you can still overload them with new meaning. i already see the IH site as top google hit for the phrase. maybe doable for “AT handle” too

the best thing is if the name is a shortcut for the idea, and then the idea is something you want to spread. like you want it to be a meme i think. maybe i didn’t do the best possible job at that but the goal for standalone thing is to be the entry point into the why. activate ppl who spread word

some feelings a name could evoke 1. future of the internet 2. a natural thing that always existed 3. a niche nerd thing 4. another company i personally see 2 > 1 > 3 > 4 it’s gonna be weird anyway so being distinct and googleable is important. both distinct and (2) is tricky

why i picked internet handle: - it obviously sounds universal - it directly explains its function (a handle) - it’s a contradiction: a “handle” always belongs to an app but here it’s an “internet handle” like an “internet site”. so you NOTICE it’s weird - now you know what weird thing to google
