Today I had a heated discussion with a colleague about the usefulness of the state. I argued that we can do without it, while he claimed the opposite.
At one point, to justify the sense of having a state, he told me that without it, there wouldn't be paved roads (as if we lived in the Middle Ages and weren't capable of paving them in another way, but okay). I tried to explain that we could do it in a different way...
But nothing was going his way, and he kept talking about justice, taxes, and so on!
My mind went blank, I looked him in the eyes, and I said: "FUCKING IDIOT! You want to talk about taxes? The schools are crap, the hospitals are shit, your famous paved roads are full of potholes, but the missiles that YOUR state launches at civilians and children just a short distance from here are shiny and magnificently built!!! I'm in agreement with you, my dear colleague, that taxes go somewhere, no doubt, but certainly not where I think they should! So fuck you and your precious state!"
