Oh wow, someone reporting losing a "year of Ableton projects" after running an AI-generated script. "I didn’t realize what it was doing and ran it without backing anything up." There's a few lessons to be learned here. https://www.reddit.com/r/ableton/comments/1kmnhfu/lost_a_year_of_ableton_projects_after_running_a/ #musicians #backup #AI
Nice, the first Mastodon 4.4.0 beta is now available: - "Followers you know" widget - a "featured tab" on profile pages, with "endorsed accounts" - reminders about missing alt text - warning if the language of your post doesn't match the selected language - "experimental support for verifying and displaying remote quote posts" And plenty more. "We expect 4.4.0 to be released by the first week of July, possibly sooner." Official announcement: #mastodon #MastodonBeta #fediverse
Happy #WorldBicycleDay! "The [2018 United Nations General Assembly] resolution for World Bicycle Day recognizes "the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport."" #bicycles #biking

"In Mandarin Chinese, World Wide Web is commonly translated via a phono-semantic matching to wàn wéi wǎng (万维网), which satisfies www and literally means "10,000-dimensional net", a translation that reflects the design concept and proliferation of the World Wide Web." via #internet #TheWeb #WorldWideWeb #chinese #language #linguistics
A non-stress take on Tetris (made by Adam Tal), where you drag the pieces as if putting together a puzzle. Pretty relaxing, and calmly addicting. #games #WebGames #tetris #LazyTetris #relax
An upcoming free zine on "digital grief" is seeking contributions. "An invitation to art about deleting social media pages, abandoning convenient apps, and choosing to navigate the friction that resurfaces from using cash, calling, and in-person everything." https://surveillanceresistancelab.org/resources/a-new-zine-on-digital-grief/ #zine #writing #art #contributions #grief #DigitalGrief
I just learned, via a mutual, that cron, the job-scheduling command-line utility, is celebrating 50 years this month. (In case anyone cares for this sort of thing on here.) #cron #anniversary
@npub1w9mh...7unp, former engineering lead at Glitch, sums up my feelings exactly. "The thing that breaks my heart isn’t just that another platform is shutting down—it’s that we’re losing one of the last places on the internet that prioritized joy and experimentation over engagement metrics and revenue optimization." https://blog.keith.is/blog/the-end-of-glitch-even-though-they-say-it-isnt/ via #glitch
Echoing what @npub16sjv...va89 said here. Truly an end of an era. I've been a huge fan of Glitch before it was called Glitch. I've hosted dozens of apps, which have been turned into remixes by the community, covered by the Verge, won a Glitch app of year award, I wrote tutorials using Glitch, got interviewed for their blog, I could go on. But I might just save that for a separate blog post. Until then, wishing Anil and the rest of the team all the best!
