"Dragons fill vital ecological space. They’re warnings. They’re limits. People call them evil. But when you have a dragon, people try to slay it. We still remember Saint George slaying an innocent dragon to save a princess. If we ever develop a true "generalized AI," the first thing it's gonna do is devour every scrap of data it can find. It will hoover up my books, and every book ever written. If the AI is evil, we're doomed and it won't matter. If the AI is good and uses its power to improve the world, I won't object. If the AI uses my books to improve shareholder value, I'll fiercely loudly.
"Clearly, the problem is Colin." Working on this month's #FreeBSDJournal Letters column. No idea why they publish this daft thing. You can grab a collection of these columns in "Dear Abyss."
