Journalists covering recent demonstrations in California have been assaulted, detained, and shot with crowd-control munitions — simply for doing their jobs. “We see these agencies acting lawlessly,” Tina-Desiree Berg said. Read the recap from our webinar:
More and more, the Trump administration is accusing journalists of inciting violence or lawlessness by simply reporting the news. These claims are baseless, but they’re not harmless.
Is President Trump using the ruse of building a presidential library as a vehicle for funneling bribes? Sen. Warren’s new bill could put a stop to that.
NASA walks back its commonsense promise to host landmark climate reports on its website. These reports are required by law and help the public adapt to climate change. Keeping them secret puts us all at greater risk.
ICE lawyers shouldn't hide their identities in court, and immigration judges shouldn't condone the practice. This disturbing trend must be stopped immediately.
Photos and videos posted on social media have been an incredibly important source of information for journalists reporting on ICE raids. This is exactly why we must defend the First Amendment right to record police in public and laws that protect against online censorship.
"The new law is so absurdly broad it could theoretically be used to stop a group of students from discussing politics on a campus bench at night. That’s not security; it’s suppression." https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/07/14/texas-campus-free-speech/
Well now it’s official. The dossier ICE relied on to abduct, imprison and seek to deport Rümeysa Öztürk includes her op-ed objecting to Israel’s war in Gaza, and not much else. Unsurprising, but absolutely disgusting.
ICE isn’t the secret police, and it shouldn’t be allowed to operate a de facto secret prison network. Private prisons, detention facilities, and detainee transport services that contract with the federal government should all be subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
The government is putting more and more pressure on journalists reporting on ICE. We all must speak out against these chilling tactics.
