# New file backup project Recently we've been running out of storage on our backup server. This means additional monthly costs not to mention new hardware. So we decided it's a great moment to experiment with an idea of offsite backup. The idea is to build a little rack, with all the hardware we need. This way we aren't constrained to server size and can easily expand if needed. It's a nice playground to see what's possible for the future as well. We are at the stage of gathering all needed components. Most important stuff is already here and the best thing of it all is that it all costed peanuts. Biggest expense will be of course disks needed for the storage. We picked up a second hand 22U rack for 90euro and jbod 15disk bay chassis with controllers for 120. Once all the other components arrive it's time to set things up. Its a nice spring project.
