"There are numerous problems with the indictment, but perhaps the most glaring is its inclusion of charges against a Dallas #artist who wasn’t even at the protest. Daniel 'Des' Sanchez is accused of transporting a box that contained '#Antifa materials' after the incident, supposedly to conceal evidence against his wife, Maricela Rueda, who was there. "But the boxed materials aren’t Molotov cocktails, pipe bombs, or whatever #MAGA officials claim 'Antifa' uses to wage its imaginary war on America. As prosecutors laid out in the July criminal complaint that led to the indictment, they were zines and pamphlets. Some contain controversial ideas — one was titled '#InsurrectionaryAnarchy' — but they’re fully constitutionally protected free speech. The case demonstrates the administration’s intensifying efforts to criminalize left-wing #activists after Donald Trump announced in September that he was designating 'Antifa' as a 'major terrorist organization' — a legal designation that doesn’t exist for domestic groups — following the killing of Charlie Kirk. "It’s an escalation of a familiar tactic. In 2023, Georgia prosecutors listed #ZineDistribution as part of the #conspiracy charges against 61 #StopCopCity protesters in a sprawling #RICO indictment that didn’t bother to explain how each individual defendant was involved in any actual crime. I wrote back then about my concern that this wasn’t just sloppy overreach, but also a blueprint for censorship. The original American cuisine arose from the vibrant and diverse indigenous cultures that thrived across the North American continent for thousands of years before #colonization. "My grandparents were among the first generation to be systematically assimilated to 'American”' culture—I heard stories of children kidnapped and sent to boarding schools, their hair cut, their language forbidden. How I wish I had been taught more than the handful of recipes I learned as a child — #wasna (dried meat and berries), #taniga (tripe soup), #bapa (#bison jerky), and #wojape (#chokecherry sauce). "When I was 13 years old, I began my working in professional kitchens, and by my early 20s, I had become an executive chef. The City of #HoustonTx Solid Waste Management Department, in partnership with Council Member #SallieAlcorn, is excited to announce the return of the 5th Annual #PumpkinCompostDropOff Program. Don’t toss your pumpkins in the trash, compost them instead! From October 25 through November 29, Houston residents can drop off their used or unused pumpkins at two City of Houston facilities. All collected pumpkins will be transformed into nutrient-rich compost to help grow a greener Houston. Please remove any candles, stickers, paint, or other non-pumpkin decorations before dropping off your pumpkins. Last year’s event was a smashing success, diverting more than 25,260 pounds of pumpkins from Houston’s landfills, making it the most successful year yet. The city hopes to break that record in 2025 and divert even more #compostable material from the landfill. 'We’re proud to see Houstonians embracing composting and taking action to reduce waste,' said Director Larius Hassen, Director of Solid Waste Management 'It’s amazing to see how something as simple as a leftover pumpkin can help grow a more sustainable Houston' 'Pumpkins are everywhere, and I love seeing them.
