I just drove back from the Okanagan today (from family memorial service). The fires in Kelowna are intense and moving with the wind. Fire jumped Okanagan lake in several spots last night. Many houses lost, 1000s are evacuating. As far as I know, the fire around Shuswap Lake has not jumped the lake yet, but is moving east rapidly. As always, I am amazed by the people on the ground jumping in to help move cows, horses, all livestock, give people property to put their animals on, camp and stay safe to wait this out. It seems like the shitty people are just sprinkled in among all the really great people that are doing all they can to help out. It was also fantastic to have my ham radio on in the car and when I came around the last mountain to my valley, the same great guys that I talk to every day on the net were there asking how the conditions were and if I or anyone needed help. They let me know about trees down in the wind and power outages in our whole area. Did my honey extraction today on probably the hottest day of this week. I only got 2 mediums from the 4 hives as I make sure all of them have a full deep of honey going into winter. They all have that now so the rest of August might be a tiny trickle of honey making but not much now. I am happy as it was a full 5 gallons for the household for the coming year. None for sale this year but we'll see what next year brings. #beekeeping #homesteading #HoneyFlow #bees #pollinators

Did you know that you can freeze fresh sweet peppers? I picked these this morning, chopped and flash froze on sheets. Then pack into larger bags. Great for adding to food that is cooked. Just scoop the amount right out of the freezer bag, and add frozen to whatever you are cooking.
