Hey #yogastr crew! No class today, while I focus on some other projects including redoing the yoga space. We’ll be back on next Monday at 5 pm Arizona time 🫢
It took me a long time to find direction on my yoga journey. At first it was due to a lack of option for a teacher.. 10 years ago there was absolutely no studios in the areas of New York where I lived. I taught myself out of books and videos. My first class with an instructor was at the local rec center, with my mom and several other women three times my age. Later I moved to a city in Arizona. Here there was an abundance of options. I tried many studios and felt uncomfortable in them... surrounded by perfectly curated women in expensive clothing, loud music, and endless Vinyasa flows. Eventually I stumbled onto Ashtanga and found my home for a short while. A group of people committed wholeheartedly to their own practice. The studio closed, I moved away, and my body craved something less fiery than the Ashtanga Primary Series. Now I am teaching, back in a rural town. Yoga is so popular now that even here there are studios and plenty of practitioners with an overpowering ego. It took a little while, but I am finding my people. Teaching at the local community center, with a backdrop of lassos, quilts, and a huge American flag. It might not fit the "yoga aesthetic" but I could not be happier. Yoga is for everyone! Keep practicing 🀍 πŸͺ· #yoga #wellness #spirituality
