A copper alembic still is chosen for distilling hydrosols because the copper binds sulfates during the process, creating a sweeter smelling products. I enjoy the beauty of working with this metal and a handcrafted still. I feel it also imparts the invigorating and healing qualities of copper. Creosote is an incredible healer - resilient and fiercely protective - even if these scrubby bushes don’t look like much. Traditionally, it has been used internally and externally to fight many ailments. To heal cuts, fight infections, and even stop the spread of cancer. Science has shown that creosote leaves contain a powerful antioxidant called NDGA (nordihydroguaiaretic acid ), which is now being used in anti-aging studies and skincare. Livestock fed on creosote show decreased rates of infections and parasites. This plant requires strong defenses to spread so abundantly through the dry, harsh desert and there lies its medicine. When I came back to the desert after most of the summer away, the wildflowers were blooming and framing the paths around my home. I returned to completing projects and during this most recent new Moon finalized a few formulations I have been working on. Creosote has been finding its way into my skin care and connecting me to the healing power of the Sun. Soon I will be offering a salve, skin tonic and face oil featuring this magical plant. I’m also adorning creosote bundles with wildflowers to send off some of the desert beauty ☀️🧡
