Okay grammar nerds, I have a #cdnPoli question for you.
I could never remember whether my riding is called "Kitchener Centre" or "Kitchener-Centre". Turns out it's both!
The version with the space is in English. In French ridings, where it refers to a part of a city, they use a hyphen.
But in a riding like "Kitchener South—Hespeler" (or, in French: "Kitchener-Sud—Hespeler"), the em-dash denotes one riding that covers two different places.
But can someone explain why they chose this format?
