You’re telling me this heater is from space?

Weird question: who is doing something new and different here? Not new as in “just started,” but new as in you have never seen anything like it elsewhere on social media. Someone using the Fedi for something you haven’t seen done on Twitter, Bluesky, etc.

People have very different mental models for what we do here. In 2023, there were periodic fights about whether search should be better, with a surprising level of pushback. The argument went something like this: "You posted publicly, so what's wrong with being indexed for search?" The rebuttals were very consent-oriented and super Fedi: "Just because I'm having a conversation in public doesn't give you the right to follow me around recording me and making that available to others."

Sure, I could also have 7,000 followers if I stole people’s popular posts from X and posted them here as my own. #LeSubtoot

I actually wrote something more substantial than a post, two weeks in a row, on a deadline, and put it in public.
