Fitness is my jam, especially slow weightlifting sessions in a toasty gym—nothing beats that burn! Today, I brought my son along, tossed him a basketball, and said, “Go have a blast, kid!” while I hit the weights. About 45 minutes later, he bounced over, eyes wide, pointing at the bench press: “Dad, I wanna do that!” My heart did a little happy dance eight years of waiting for this moment! We found him a bar that wouldn’t squash him, and we cranked out set after set, grinning like goofballs. Some folks say kids shouldn’t lift young, but seeing his smile (and mine in the gym mirror), I say, do what sparks joy weights, hoops, or whatever.
