Amy Sherald Pulls Smithsonian Show Over Censorship Concerns The museum reportedly did not want to show the artist's painting of a transgender woman out of fear of provoking the President. The painting is called “Trans Forming Liberty.” #transgender #trans #lgbtq #2SLGBTQIA #BlackArt #AmySherald #BlackQueer #censorship #Smithsonian #Art #painting
I made a new dog bowl because I dropped a bottle of olive oil on the old one and it split in three. I made this one with a super thick rim to hopefully give it some extra durability against #HurricaneOsa. Nala is the small black one. We’ve had her for a year. She’s super soft and howls like a tiny wolf. Bayou is our 13-year-old pitt mix, so named because she was rescued from Bayou Rd in New Orleans by my husband’s friend. Neither of them care about their bougie handmade bowl. #pottery
Awesome photos from an invitational gallery show that opened this week. I shared these ewers in a previous post just after they’d come out of the kiln, but it’s wonderful to see my work grouped with others’ and displayed in such a pleasing, rhythmic way. What an honor to be included with some of the most talented ceramic artists in the country. #pottery #ceramics #handmade #mastodonart #gallery
It’s finally happening, folks. We’re going #solar 🌞 We’re grid-tied so what this means is a drastic reduction in our fossil fuel use, but not complete elimination. I’m especially happy to be decreasing fossil fuel reliance in the #pottery studio as it adds an additional layer of intentionality to my work. I can talk all day about my connection to the earth through #clay, but it’s all empty conceptualizing without accompanying action. image
Wanted to show this to @James Green but figured I’d share it with everyone. It’s an old blog post about visiting an #Indigenous midden with ancient pottery shards off the coast of #Louisiana. The site was almost lost, getting submerged by water due to sea level rise. Local tribes have intervened since then. It’s a very short post with lots of photos. #archaeology #climatechange #GulfofMexico #pottery #history
There’s a crystal clarity to this music. It sparkles and has a beautifully mournful quality. The first song is called “Lonely in the Forest,” but in #Burmese. #SuWai #BurmeseHarp #Myanmar #harp #LittleAxeRecords
How kind of @James Green to agree to trade #WildClay samples by mail. This clay is from Bayou Teche, Louisiana and I’m excited to experiment with it. I lived in Louisiana for 11 years, so it’s a sentimental place for me. Thanks, James! First step is to dry it in the sun. I’m going to test fire that round little cookie of unprocessed #clay just to see how it behaves. Then I’ll process another bit of it into terra sigillata and test that. #ClayPals image
