The “Why I’m Leaving Substack” post is the new “Goodbye to All That,” writes Sarah Scrier for NiemanLab. some top newsletter writers — including Anne Helen Petersen, Lyz Lenz, and Virginia Sole-Smith — have left Substack for Patreon. Email delivery issues, poor technical support and an overemphasis on social features were reasons for their departure. Teen Vogue, which had in the last decade become known as a place for young people to get their political news, is folding into Vogue.com and its editor, Verna Sharma, is stepping down. Here's the official announcement. It makes no reference to whether politics reporting will continue, sating: "As a dedicated pillar on Vogue, Teen Vogue will focus its content on career development, cultural leadership and other issues that matter most to young people, according to the publication." Lex McMenamin, the magazine's only politics reporter, announced on Bluesky earlier today that she has been laid off, along with multiple other staffers.

In May 2025, Google began to pay CA$100 million a year to media outlets in order to be exempt from Canada's Online News Act. Gretel Kahn of the University of Oxford's Reuters Institute spoke to representatives from The Logic, @npub1vedz...c8mj, IndigiNews and The Rover about how things are going, who gets the money, and where things stand with Meta, which decided to remove all news for Canadians rather than pay up. “If companies like Google and Facebook want to play that role in being a trusted information source and they want people to come to their platform, trust it and be doing good things with circulating information, I don’t think it’s a crazy idea that they should be expected to pitch in funding journalism,” said The Tyee's Jeanette Ageson.
