My parents use #Quicksy and #Prav to communicate with me on #XMPP for around 3 years now. Think of how significant that has been in terms of privacy.
Before @npub1kx0l...hnqj told me about Quicksy (and @npub1eyku...ndu6 was not a thing before 2022), I tried to onboard them to #Matrix and XMPP using Element and Conversations respectively.
However, the on boarding was complicated for them (people are not used to remembering usernames and passwords anymore).
#WhatsApp has introduced ads, so that you can be manipulated into buying stuff you don't need.
Such anti-user moves are inevitable with proprietary software and proprietary services, such as WhatsApp.

I am impressed by how lightweight #XMPP is. Most of time, I am not able to open even simple websites on my mobile data while in underground #Delhi metro, but XMPP messages go through immediately.
On a related note, I remember having internet issues in my previous phone a couple of years ago after switching to Lineage OS. Matrix, websites etc. didn't use to work. But XMPP messages used to go through fine.
