I just boosted a bunch of stuff about this, most of which puts the focus on the PSF's correct moral calculus here, and that's where most the focus should be. But there's unfortunately another, tougher lesson: you cannot be a Republican and support the Python community.

Oh no I just realized that Wayland is the IPv6 of display servers and IPv6 is the Wayland of networking. 1. works OK if you don't look *too* hard 2. a necessary, even critical upgrade for deep infrastructure reasons that most users don't know 3. exciting new features you can't use because it's only 70% implemented 4. wildly divergent technical "standard" compliance between platforms 5. experts with complex needs just ignore it by using shell scripts that interface with its legacy predecessor

I am simultaneously excited for the implementation techniques that #python free threading is going to open up for framework authors and deeply concerned about the way I see discussions going around it, as it seems application authors will be speedrunning the “you can fit so many untestable data races in here” to “you can fit so many intractable mutex deadlocks in here” pipeline that java previewed for us all in the early aughts

if you are writing a UI that loads data "the data is not loaded yet" must be OBVIOUSLY VISUALLY DISTINCT from "the data is loaded, and it is empty" that is all

Every CEO being a dumbass by attempting to put out a "neutral" milquetoast statement to avoid taking sides between fascists and anti-fascists fills me with this powerful dual emotion. Mostly I am just mad at them for being dumbasses of course but there's a part of me that is still so sympathetic to them. If you have seen folks talking about "Omarchy" or maybe seen a screenshot that looked neat, please be aware that it is an operating system for nazis, by nazis. DHH made a linux distribution with Hyprland, which is a tiling Wayland compositor for bigots, by bigots. I am sorry if you'd seen some of the compelling aesthetics and I had to rain on your parade, I hope that this saves a few people from investing any emotional energy in this project
