This is awesome news!
Early planning: I’m organizing a photo walk with my fellow fediverse friends (that’s you!) through the Mission District in SF next Saturday (2/15). Focused on #SFgraffiti and murals. Who’s interested in joining me and would you prefer 10am or 2pm start time? #PixelWalk #PixelWalkSF
I absolutely love receiving messages like this, and I'm happy to see friends from the #yoyo community dipping their toes into the fediverse! In this message, @npub1xz22...xxdp is asking if there good for yo-yoers, so I thought I'd ask for suggestions. Any #skilltoy or #juggling themed Mastodon servers out there for him to check out? image
Meta is labelling real mug shot photos of President Trump as "AI-generated fakes". I wrote more about this on my blog, along with plenty of screenshots from FB, IG, and Threads to show how bad it looks. Between this and the recent censorship of political hashtags like #Democrat and #Kamala, I think Zuck is making a strong case for the decentralized alternatives like Mastodon and Pixelfed.
I posted Trump's mug shot photo on Threads and got an instant notification that the post had been fact-checked. The message under my post claimed that the image was AI-generated (which is false) and links to a super-spammy website claiming, "No credible outlet has published a police mugshot of Trump." I did find a way to request a review of the fact-check, but it made my post hidden from public view. I'll update here if/when the review has taken place.
My post was on the front page of Hacker News this morning before getting flagged for some reason. Comments are good there though, I appreciate that and it’s nice seeing it spread around after all the work that went into it.
