"My sibling can no longer take T, and I don't know
how to help them
I am really trying to find help and wanting to
learn maybe from other people who might have
advice or strategies that worked for them. My
younger sibling (they/them) has been taking T
for about a year. A couple weeks ago they were
admitted to hospital with Stage D heart failure,
they are 18 years old. This is extremely unheard
of, and extremely concerning. The doctors have
ordered that my sibling no longer takes T. It has
been devastating to see them suffering, but on
top of it they are so discouraged. They said they
were finally feeling happy with themselves and
now its being taken away, that they didn't even
get a chance to enjoy it. It breaks my heart to see
them talk with so much disgust about their body,
and about themselves, especially because I have
so much love for them. They are so extremely
resilient and creative, and bring so much life to
the family, but they just hate themselves so
much. They also have been expressing feelings
of self-harm and suicidal ideation because of
this change. I don't know how to best support
them through this. I guess I am seeking help
because I know so little about the behind the
scenes of what they are going through. Are there
ways people have found to come to a place of
peace or self-love when they can't receive the
treatment they want? Are there other options
that are more safe for people with heart
conditions? What can I do? What can I say? "

"Yeah this sounds like trans broken arm
syndrome. Go back to them and demand an
actual good reason that he has to stop T. Look
into changing doctors if they refuse. If cis men
don't have to take antiandrogens for this, he
shouldn't have to stop T. Most doctors, even
most endocrinologists, know less about HRT
than your average trans person."
