I think #nostr would be more likeable for normies if it had a better name 🤔

Circle, Visa, and similar financial institutions launching proprietary blockchain Layer 1s fundamentally misunderstand the purpose of blockchain technology. The core value proposition of blockchains-transparency, decentralization, censorship resistance, and verifiable immutability-is entirely negated when a single entity controls the network. If Circle builds its own L1 for USDC, it’s not a blockchain in any meaningful sense. It’s a permissioned database with a marketing label. Validators would be pre-approved partners, transaction finality dictated by corporate policy, and no public can audit or participate. This achieves nothing that PostgreSQL, DuckDB, or even a well-architected SQL database couldn’t handle more efficiently, at lower cost, and with better performance. The irony is staggering: these companies tout "blockchain innovation" while replicating the exact centralized infrastructure they claim to disrupt. Visa’s existing payment rails process 65,000 TPS; their "blockchain" solution will struggle to hit triple digits. Why sacrifice speed, scalability, and cost efficiency for a veneer of decentralization they have no intention of honoring? Transparency isn’t optional in blockchain-it’s the point. If you’re not allowing public verification, open participation, or trustless execution, you’re not using blockchain. You’re using a distributed ledger dressed up as blockchain to chase hype while ignoring the technology’s philosophical foundation. Stop rebranding centralized databases as "blockchain." If your use case requires control, stick with DuckDB. Real blockchain solves problems you don’t have. #blockchain #circle
