A short summer update on Chat Control:
After years of negotiations, the EU Council of ministers is now looking to finally reach a goal with the heavily criticized Chat Control 2 proposal. Although the proposal has not yet been made public, the planned agenda shows that the council has reached a certain consensus ahead of its meeting on 13 and 14 October.
The finished proposal is expected to be presented under the βPartial general approachβ item and is believed to include client scanning-where messages are thus analyzed directly on the user's device. In practice, this means that software should read messages before they are encrypted, or after they have been decrypted.
Sweden's position on the issue will be decided in the EU Committee of the Riksdag on 10 October.
