Earlier today, I published a 10,000 word deep dive into Sun Microsystems's ecosystem of the late 2000s - covering their final SPARC workstation (the Ultra 45), awesome expansions like the SunPCI IIIpro (an entire x86 PC on a PCI card!), the Sun Ray thin client environment (including all the real hardware and working setups), and much more, on @OSNews. This was a ton of work, and consumed my life for a few months. Few websites publish stuff like this anymore, and I'm glad I happen to run one where people still appreciate meticulous writing like this. If you want more, feel free to donate to our Ko-Fi or become a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/osnews That being said, none of this would've been possible without the insanely generous donations from @npub10fyf...xyrh and @npub177cx...vplg - I can't emphasize enough how grateful I am to them. ♥️
Speaking of getting cancelled, I removed Home Assistant from my network. I wasn't using it, as we have far too few "smart" products in our house to really make use of it. My Home Assistant Dell box was just running without being used. Google Home is more than good enough for the very few "smart" home stuff that we do.
Dog owners should be subject to strict inspections and recurring training to ensure they have the necessary time, skills, and dedication to own such an animal. Dog attacks and bites are stupidly common, and they really shouldn't be. I can barely fart without a permit and three licenses, but any fucking idiot can get a dog, neglect it, and have it bite a toddler - and then the *dog* gets blamed and put down. Insanity. This is most likely my most controversial take.
And as right on cue, the Dutch fascist leader Wilders has started pushing conspiracy tweets that the elections results - which he lost - are invalid. Mind you, we vote with paper and pencil, ballots are stored for recounts, and the entire counting process in every single polling place is open and freely accessible to any Dutch citizen. Our elections are most likely the most reliable and transparent in the world. Can we just not import American stupidity for *one fucking day*, please?
We've been dealing with a ton of sickness here - oldest got a major eye infection, gave it to me, and now my wife and I have a cold, while she is still recovering from an elective surgery (that went well but had some annoying complications) - I may not be updating @OSNews as quickly or regularly as normal. Our oldest has recovered now and can go back to preschool tomorrow, so my wife and I can recover a bit again tomorrow. Things should be back to normal after the weekend.
There's no way "AI" can properly configure SELinux.
