This week's episode seemed scientifically engineered to throw a grenade into fandom!
KABOOM.
I kid, but man, they really went all-in.
The special guest star was not who I expected, but it makes the most sense for him to appear, in a bunch of ways. And it allowed for a much more elegant, all-encompassing approach to the topic...
And CONSIDERING the topic -- holy shit. What a swing. This should NOT work. Certainly not from this plucky, brand new show who only just got here... THE AUDACITY! Yet they find a way not only to do it, but it's done tastefully with what is probably the only real "answer" to one of Trek's biggest mysteries. Big respect.
I think what surprised me the most is that SAM's big episode ended up NOT involving much with the Doctor. It seemed obvious he'd be a special mentor and we'd really dig into that, but it's not what this ended up being about.
I loved this, not just because of the massive DS9 connections, but on it's own terms, too.
And if I _didn't_ love this show I'd be a lot more critical about SAM calling Orson like on "Mork & Mindy". 😉
Kerrice Brooks gets a ton of shit from the (inexplicably existing) conservative sect of Trek, but fuck them: they're a goddamned delight.
You continue to surprise and delight me, SFA.
