Youngblood, itself is a bit of a step down from The New Colossus, so far, but BJ's then-controversial tomboy daughters are fucking hilarious (in the best way).
It feels like an attempt is being made to elevate the gameplay (with upgrades, etc), but it's quite a bit more rough around the edges.
For instance, right out of the gate, before you see ANYTHING related to story, or the game in general, it immediately forces you into this awkward menu where you pick which sister you want to be, which handgun (smb or pistol), and a couple other options that don't really MATTER because pretty much immediately you can pick up the alternate option.
And because it's a co-op focused game (playable with an AI companion), the map layouts tend to have incredibly awkward, forced duality -- two mirrored paths through he same area. Two controls that have to be activated by both sisters at once quite frequently. Doors or other barriers that only open if the other sister is there to help you open it, etc.
Storywise, it's an interesting start: BJ goes missing. Anya has to raise her girls, so she calls on her old American Resistance comrade, Grace, who is now... FBI Director...? Which begs so many questions -- the FBI is back? Wasn't she a Black Revolutionary Front member, falsely accused of killing an FBI agent? Okay? I expect Max Hass to show up as a scientist or something. Anwyay, BJ's daughters are friends with Grace's daughter from the prior game, Abby, who's all grown up now and well versed in (now deceased) Set's technology. (Hence the new suits.)
A lot of this stuff is rough. Real rough. But the story elements, so far, have been generally quite enjoyable. Especially the teasing, sisterly interplay between the lead girls. It's perhaps even a welcome respite from the existential horrors of The New Colossus.
But we'll see where it goes.
