I’m bullish on batteries! More specifically, the key metals (lithium, cobalt, nickel) used in the composition of lithium-ion batteries.
We’re in the first inning of the internet era. Over the recent decades we’ve witnessed the arrival of computers, cell phones, electric vehicles, 3D printing, artificial intelligence, etc. These technologies will continue to grow and will lead us to discover/produce new technologies we couldn’t see before.
Lithium-ion batteries are currently the main source of power for many of the technologies we use today. As the internet revolution continues to evolve, I see an increased demand for lithium-ion batteries. However, the supply of lithium, cobalt and nickel is limited.
With increased demand and a limited supply, I see the value of these metals going up over time.
I will note, the extraction of these metals, in particular cobalt, has historically been done in an inhumane way. Those who work in cobalt mines often have unsafe working conditions, are paid next to nothing and are often children. There has been an effort to replace cobalt in lithium-ion batteries. This is something to keep an eye on, and could have a significant impact on the value of cobalt.
For these metals, I am looking for ethical investment vehicles.
