The Alan Turing Institute will be well-represented at #FOSDEM this year! My colleagues from @Research Engineering @ Turing and @The Turing Way Project (no official Turing Mastodon account yet 😞) have been involved with the Python, Open Research and HPC/Big Data/Data Science devrooms. Open Research: Python: HPC/Big Data/Data Science: We also have six separate presentations across a whole range of different topics. 1/7 image
There's a bunch of exciting #SailfishOS stuff happening at #FOSDEM this year: 1. The #LinuxOnMobile stand will have phones to try. I'll be there, please come say "Hi"! 2. A Sailfish social event Saturday night (they're always amazing). 3. A Sailfish Community BoF on Sunday with the @jolla team. Plus a bunch of talks in the devrooms. Looking forward to an amazing event! image
If you're heading to #FOSDEM with a #SailfishOS phone there's a new FOSDEM25 app for this year with: 1. Improved higher-res map of ULB. 2. Improved guestbook. Grab it from OpenRepos or (hopefully, eventually) Chum:
My #JollaC2 Community Edition phone is finally fully working and I'm spending a bit of time getting to know it. I like the physical feel, although some aspects will take a little getting used to (big screen, rounded corners, notch). I do appreciate the subtle touches like "Privacy from Finland" printed on the camera bump. Captures the spirit of #SailfishOS. Can't deny I'm thrilled to see #Gecko ESR91 running on it. Now to spend some time getting the software set up just right!
The #SailfishOS community news, last of the year, is now out! 🎄 There's a summary of the grand opening of the @jolla AI factory in Salo 🤖 🏭 Jolla C2 and Mind2 updates 📱 Xperia updates 📱 and Sailfish OS 5.0 updates 🐟 Plus Damien's repository roundup 🐙 and my app roundup of 2024 📲 🎄 🎁 ☃️ 🎄 🎁 ☃️ 🎄 🎁 ☃️ image
Thanks to @Research Engineering @ Turing for letting me present at #TheAlanTuringInstitute on Tuesday on the "Anatomy of a Browser" covering embedding browser frameworks. A first for me: presented from my #Linux phone using an embedded #WebView streamed using ScreenCast. View the slides online: https://www.flypig.co.uk/presentations/techtalk-gecko-dev-20241203/ Slide/notes source/PDFs on GitHub: Code for the WebView presentation app: #Browser #Gecko #Blink #WebKit #CEF #Qt #SailfishOS image
Choosing a small, low-powered, home server, with so many options, each with their own benefits, is no easy task. But I have finally chosen and this is my rationale. image
A Brief Embedded Browser Expo. As part of my continuing exploration of embedded browsers, a hands-on look at three nice examples: Chromium Embedded Framework, Qt WebEngine and Sailfish WebView. What features do they support? What do their APIs look like? What are they like to use in practice? And what is an embedded browser anyway? #CEF #Qt #SailfishOS #WebEngine #WebView #Chromium #Chrome #WebKit #Blink #Gecko image
Really happy that the #LinuxOnMobile stand has been accepted for #FOSDEM25. We'll be showcasing #PureOS, #MNT Research, #NemoMobile #Mobian., #SailfishOS and #AsteroidOS. Hope to see you in Brussels, 1-2 February! Linux on Mobile: All the accepted stands: image
The #SailfishOS community newsletter is now out! News about the support days in #Tampere, #Helsinki 🇫🇮 and #Berlin 🇩🇪 Plus the usual repository roundup 🐙 and app roundup 📲 I'm a bit tardy in posting about it today... better late than never!
