Bonfire Social 1.0 is live! A federated, community‑first social network built on the modular Bonfire toolkit, and it’s only the beginning. It's time to go beyond microblogging and build apps for community organising, open science, mutual aid, and collective decision‑making. Let's take back the internet with open protocols, consent‑based governance, and portability by design. Back the “last migration” from closed platforms to open networks: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bonfire/community?refcode=FVxjqI1kLUOhHXxqyrS6-g 1/2 image
🔥 RSS/Atom support opens up data portability beyond the fediverse. You can now subscribe to user feeds, thread comments, posts, articles, events, media feeds, or custom feeds directly in your RSS client. Demo: Read more about 1.0 RC3: #enshittification #release #dataportability
🔥 More anti-enshittification features now live in Bonfire ✨ Complete data portability: Export/import now supports circles/lists, bookmarks, likes, and boosts alongside follows, blocks, and posts. ✨ Transparency by design: A dedicated real-time dashboard to monitor migration progress in detail and troubleshoot issues. 🔥 Consent-based quoting has arrived in Bonfire! The latest Bonfire Social release implements Mastodon's FEP-044f, enabling you to: ✨ Use boundaries to define who can quote your post, who must request first, or who cannot request at all. ✨ Quote — or request consent to quote — someone else’s post. ✨ Give or withdraw consent at any time. A first step toward making quoting work smoothly and respectfully across the fediverse. Read more about 1.0 RC3: #quote image
🔥 Bonfire now supports post imports when migrating instances You can bring your posts (+ optionally replies) with you when moving to a Bonfire instance from another instance or platform. Imported posts keep their original dates and URIs. Threads are preserved, as are like/boost counts. It works by "boosting" all your old posts (without flooding others' feeds with old activities). 📣 Bonfire Social 1.0rc3 just dropped! This latest release puts data portability and anti-enshittification front and center. Read what's new:
#openscience We're starting to experiment with generating DOIs for articles in Bonfire. We're considering using @npub1fp32...3wzf as the initial provider, but we'd love to hear your thoughts: is Crossref the right place to start, or would you recommend a different service? @openscience group
Bonfire x Newsmast We’re excited to share that Bonfire and @npub1dadl...y568 are working together. We’re collaborating across several key areas: 🔎 Enhancing discoverability for Channels on Bonfire 🧭 Improving interoperability between the Channels mobile app and Bonfire 🌌 Partnering to offer services for organisations around Bonfire’s Mosaic initiative #Bonfire #Newsmast #Fediverse #SocialWeb #TechNews #FediNews image
Two new profile widgets coming in the next #OpenScience flavour release: 📄 Most Recent Publication: showcase your latest work ⭐ Most Cited Publication: highlight your most cited publication 🔧 Quantitative metrics now hidden by default while we consider removing them entirely ( discussion here: ) ✨ New settings panel lets users toggle each widget on/off individually
As we integrate #OpenAlex data into the #Bonfire #OpenScience flavor, we're displaying familiar metrics: works count, citations, h-index, research topics, institutional affiliations... These might be exactly what you need, or perhaps just a starting point. What additional information would help you find collaborators or understand someone's work better? We're opening this design process to the open science community. Share what works, what doesn't, what's missing. [@open_science]( ) 1/2 image
