Are fediverse clients blocking users and federation with UK users and servers? Or are they hoping they’re too small to face charges under the UK OSA? Or going full KYC on all of their users and servers? I mean how do you tell if someone has made a post about a knife in a dangerous way? It seems like compliance on an open network or with open source software is impossible.
Substack has changed the world of journalism, making it easy for journalists to directly charge for a newsletter. Now they're growing in to a whole platform with algorithms, video, podcasts, microblogging... I sat down with their CEO Chris Best to talk about it just as they announce they've raised a $100 million in funding, and also their algorithm sent out an antisemitic push notification with a swastika icon.
I sat down to interview [@karaswisher]( ) on my revolution.social podcast where she is scathing in her critique of social media and the executives who founded and run the platforms.
I’m launching a podcast talking about how social media got to where it is today and how we can build a better future, social media built on protocols. Revolution.social
Breaking news. As part of an effort to decriminalise drugs, New Zealand is legalising the pharmacy over the counter sale of melatonin! I genuinely was snuggling melatonin in to the country from overseas. This is removing a stupid rule. Small victories. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/564504/melatonin-to-be-made-available-over-the-counter-at-pharmacies
The revolution will be social
Posters at protests are now created to go viral as a meme & amplify the movement. Take the recent HΔ«koi defending Aotearoa New Zealand’s founding treaty. Posters weren’t mass produced, instead there were tons of different ones each with their own message. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/te-manu-korihi/537394/signs-of-the-hikoi-more-than-just-words-on-cardboard
@Mike McCue nice interview with @npub1sacl...kcpe and @npub1fd2l...f2f9 I'm super curious about your research in to / hearing from folks who want groups / privacy and are frustrated. Is this antidotal or are you seeing more trends / research on this? I think privacy and groups is not what bluesky has focused on. I kind of think the relay/appview model will make those things hard to build, you might need to make an alt network stack bridging PDS's to make it work. But then it'll be ATprotocol but not bluesky at all.
Listening to Harris campaign leadership reflect on the campaign. They knew Harris needed a strong break from the Biden administration to define how she disagreed and would do things differently. Harris refused and fundamentally believed loyalty was more important than winning. The blame for this loss is on Biden, Harris, and Democratic Party senior leadership.
