likes are fairly useless interactions i think. i have a strong preference for replies. that said i do think they serve as a good way to indicate appreciation when a full reply is unwarranted but i think they are overly used as a social indicator

"following" should have always been a private activity, like subscribing to an rss feed. follow counts are a mistake. honestly, most global counts are. the fedi people got that right, albeit accidentally
