12 years ago tonight I went to bed, like any other night. Little did I know that my sleep would be curtailed and I’d find myself rushing my pregnant wife into hospital, where we’d soon become a family of three.
It was snowing that night, but I had no concerns, for I was the proud owner of a 2011 Jeep Liberty.
We made it to the hospital safely, and in good time.
I remember this detail well, because when I purchased said Jeep Liberty a couple of years before all this, my wife had said, “do we really need a Jeep? Like really?!”
The thing is I wanted one, because I’d not long moved to America, and I promised myself a big ol’ car.
So, thinking fast I said, “well, what if you are pregnant one day, and it’s snowing and I have to drive you to the hospital?”
“Unlikely,” she replied, rolling her eyes.
I reminded her of this conversation several times during that drive that night. A further bunch of times throughout that the day. And have continued to do so every year since.
It is one of the only times I’ve ever been right, and I’m milking that for as long as I wander this Earth.
