If it's not #decentralized, #federated and #FLOSS it's not worthed. Like #Matrix or #XMPP, communications should not depend on a #SPOF in some #BigTech silo.
This week in #FDroid (TWIF) is cast live: * #Taler real-world usage * #Castlab to your #DLNA * #Ente + #Tuta = <3 * #TesselGame mania * #VirtualGamePad on Linux now + 8 new apps & 189 updates Fill the board:
We took for granted that at least our tech bubble would understand what the Google Decree means for Android, #FLOSS and freedom. Unfortunately we never saw the uproar we were expecting and people just shrugged it off taking for granted that "nothing changes". @npub1s3un...fcs2 great #FDroid post brought the issue into the light, waking up developers, users, media and (we hope) concerned authorities to the immense danger the newly proposed gatekeeping controls Google wants to add. 1/3
Broken links aside (fix incoming), #FDroid raises the case against the #Google developer forced registration once again. We'll skip the small talk, go read, and better yet, spread this wide and far: so people are made aware, actions can be taken and #Android is kept truly open!
The intersection of the new #Google Developer Verification Policy and the #EU #DMA needs to be pondered. Article 6.4? Yes, in need of an update, sooner rather than later. #FDroid keeps showing the way forward:
PSA: If you haven't updated #K9Mail to 12.0, please don't update it. It will crash on start if you use the unified inbox. The bug has been fixed in 12.1 and will be available in the next #FDroid update. #Thunderbird is not affected, kind reminder to consider switching as K-9 will go away in the future anyway. Workaround for now: Make a widget for a single mailbox, then you can open K-9, you can change accounts and disable unified inbox.
#FDroid website does not load? Yay, certificates rotation failed.πŸ™„ We're on to it, will keep you posted... /LE: Tracking it in:
If you feel that #FDroid downloads are slow, just press ❎ to cancel the download then press Install/Update again so it picks up some other mirror. There's no unified "F-Droid server" but several and a dozen or more mirrors. Each time you try again it will use a different one. Hopefully the next one will have better bandwidth. /PS: We've seen the reports, we will look into it.
This week in #FDroid (TWIF) is happening: * Hardware upgrades can't come quicker * #Syncthing Lite is back * #Taler hits one point zero * #ShatteredPixel needs Android 5 * #WebLibreBrowser wraps #Gecko in #Flutter * More stats panels * #Debian Trixie is here! * #Wikipedia fights #OnlineSafetyAct * #Rethink hits some bugs + 12 new apps & 160 more updates - 8 apps archived #ItsFriday Friday Friday:
Back in April we asked you for a helping hand regarding legal matters. We got plenty of people willing to help or at least to guide us towards other like-minded projects that might have the experience we were looking for. Our of those discussions #FDroid will publish a series of posts that go through all the lessons learned and we hope these will be useful to all #FLOSS #FOSS contributors, maintainers, and developers out there. Take a 10 minute break for the intro:
