Meta’s surveillance systems are pervasive, but there are ways to limit how it collects and uses your personal data.
EFF obtained datasets representing more than 12 million searches logged by more than 3,900 agencies between 2024 and 2025. The data shows that agencies logged hundreds of searches related to the 50501, Hands Off, and No Kings protests, among other protests in between.
Going forward, public utilities throughout California should understand that they cannot disclose customers’ electricity data to law enforcement without any “evidence to support a suspicion” that a particular crime occurred.
We cannot base our human rights on the government’s mere promise to uphold them. The UK government must listen to the public and civil society organizations in the country and say no to digital ID.
