This was an interesting study looked at if putting automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in private homes is effective and cost effective. They found it was effective in saving lives but not cost effective. The average cost of an AED can range between $1500-$2500 and it could last anywhere from 5 to 15 years. Given the increased availability of AEDs for the general public to buy we should have cardiology guideline recommendations for patients who may be recommended to own AEDs if they are able to afford it.
