I like this explanation of the #conservative mindset. That they are people who can't accept that life is "a play without a plot". So they cling to rules about how the world should work that only exist in their mind, and try to make reality adhere. They care more about that than material reality. Life with meaning is more important than having more money. They aren't racist or sexist etc as much as they want to confirm historical norms to escape the idea that we're just all here by accident.

What did it mean this week for the WH to do a prime time address and care that the TV networks would broadcast it live? Amid all the different ways to reach the public, with video if you want, somehow the attention that these companies still control matters apparently. A power the president still kinda has to beg for.
