While different...there are some striking similarities with Mikhail Gorbachev and Donald Trump.
Both attempted (or in Trump's case, is attempting) to revive failed and bankrupt Empires.
Gorbachev tried to revive the Soviet Union with perestroika ("restructuring").
Trump is trying to "restructure" America with his tariffs and trade deals.
Gorbachev had hardliners that wanted the militant empire to continue.
Trump has his neocon friends, along with our government being FILLED with Zionists and war hawks.
Here's a VERY IMPORTANT key ... and an unknown that we're dealing with...
Gorbachev allowed the Soviet Union to collapse rather than invading satellite countries to put down the protests. The Soviet Union fell without bloodshed, and Gorbachev deserves tremendous credit for it.
In America today, our great danger is that Trump does not allow the end of the American Empire without devastating wars with Iran, Russia and China.
At the present moment, Trump is doing a bad job. First by attacking Iran, and second by extending the Ukraine war.
Let us all hope that Trump reverses this behavior.
Russia was able to rebuild their society under Putin. America can be rebuilt too, as long as war is avoided.
It was a great thing for the world that the Soviet Empire finally came to an end.
So it will be a great relief for the world when America finally closes its 1,000 foreign bases, and brings all the troops home.
Let's hope that Trump (and future American presidents) have the grace to do what Gorbachev did.
If the militant war hawks prevail, the entire world loses.
