All well and good, Melanie, at least as short-term indirect reforms. But here are 5 money moves that would be far more direct and effective: 1. firing all bosses & landlords 2. seizing the means of production 3. collectivizing the workplaces 4. seizing the wealth and property of the ultra wealthy 5. abolishing capitalism image
His companies have received $38 billion in taxpayer funded government subsidies over the past 20 years. That amounts to $1.9 billion per year or $5.2 million per day image

Fire Your Boss! Direct Action Gets the Goods!! image
Let’s start with those in the government and business! Trump promising to restore “American” jobs by deporting immigrants makes about as much sense as the IDF slaughtering women, children and civilians to protect Jews from Hamas terrorism. Absurd on their face, yet many believe them because they play upon their insecurities and fears, and encourage them to punch down, instead of up, where their far more powerful and dangerous actual enemies are quietly attempting to dismantle what little social safety net still exists, as well as environmental and worker protections, while quietly transferring even more wealth from workers into their own pockets. No, immigrants aren’t stealing our jobs. The bosses are moving their plants to other countries, where they can pay their employees even less than the shit wages they were paying here. #organize #solidarity #directaction #classwar #GeneralStrike image

Today in Labor History December 27, 1918: The Revolutionary Insurgent Army of Ukraine (RIAU) seized 7 airplanes, establishing an Insurgent Air Fleet. The RIAU was an anarchist peasant army led by Nestor Makhno. During the Ukrainian War of Independence, they created a stateless libertarian communist society known as the Free Territory, or Makhnovshchina. Roughly 7 million people lived there. The peasants who lived there refused to pay rent to the landowners and seized the estates and livestock of the church, state and private landowners, setting up local committees to manage them and share them among the various villages and communes of the Free State. They implemented a system of common land ownership among the peasantry and they established hospitals, schools and children’s communes. Their influence extended over nearly one-third of the country. In 1919, Trotsky banned the 4th Ukrainian Congress of Free Soviets with Order #1824. He also declared Nestor Makhno an outlaw. In 1920, the Bolsheviks began attacking Makhnovshchina, after the Maknovists had defeated White Army, their common enemy. But many soldiers in the Red Army defected and joined the Makhnovists in their fight against the Bolsheviks. Nevertheless, the Bolsheviks ultimately crushed Makhnovshchina in 1921. Nester Makhno barely escaped, and with serious injuries. He died in exile in Paris, July 25, 1934. #workingclass #LaborHistory #anarchism #NestorMakhno #ukraine #soviet #russia #ussr #bolshevik #communism #Makhnovia image
Today in Labor History December 27, 1913: IWW workers in Edmonton, Alberta Canada began a rebellion that ultimately forced the city to house 400 unemployed during winter. At the time, Edmonton, was a major railroad center. Thousands of workers from all over Canada and the U.S. had come for work, but ended up stuck there without jobs or money. The authorities refused to help. So, the IWW created the Edmonton Unemployed League. They demanded that the city provide work to everybody regardless of race, color or nationality. Furthermore, they demanded a wage 30 cents per hour and three 25-cent meal tickets per worker per day, redeemable at any restaurant in town. They backed these demands with mass protests that continued, despite police beatings and arrests. Finally, on January 28, 1914 the city council provided a large hall for the homeless, passed out the free meal tickets and hired 400 people on a public project. #workingclass #LaborHistory #IWW #union #strike #homeless #unemployment #edmonton #canada #solidarity image
