They're already talking about the AI bubble. It's pretty much the only thing keeping the GDP above water, as most people have cut spending due to declining wages, inflation, and the all too likely scenario that things will soon be getting worse. And with all the gutting of government spending Trump has already carried, what's left to bail out the AI giants when they fail? image
A year old, but still relevant... Yes, the Dems care more about protecting their own wealth, and that of their corporate benefactors, especially military contractors, than they do about you. Same with the Republicans. And why didn't DOGE find all the government waste in the military? image
Today in Labor History December 1, 1955: Rosa Parks, a 43-year-old African-American seamstress, refused to move to the back of a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. The authorities arrested her, triggering a year-long boycott of the city bus system. It also led to legal actions which ended racial segregation on municipal buses throughout the south. #workingclass #LaborHistory #rosaparks #bus #boycott #segregation #jimcrow #civilrights #equalrights #racism #blm #BlackMastodon image
Today in Labor History December 1, 1914: The famous labor song, "Solidarity Forever," was written on this date by IWW songwriter and cofounder Ralph Chaplin. He wrote the song for a hunger march to be led by Lucy Parsons in Chicago (on January 17, 1915). The song has been translated into many other languages, including French, German, Polish, Spanish, Swahili and Yiddish. And it is still commonly sung at union gatherings in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. The inspiration for the song came from the brutal 1912-1913 Paint Creek-Cabin Creek mining strike, in West Virginia, led by Mother Jones and others. Private cops and vigilantes murdered at least 50 miners and their family members during that strike. Impressed with the solidarity and resolve of the miners, Chaplin began work on the song. Today in Labor History December 1, 1912: The rustling card system was put into place by the Anaconda Mining and Smelter Company. Rustling cards verified employees’ identities and employment status. The company used spies to identify union agitators and refused them rustling cards and jobs. In 1920, the IWW called a strike at the Anaconda mines around Butte, Montana. They demanded the end of the rustling cards system, and the implementation of the 8-hour day and higher wages. Author Dashiell Hammett served as a Pinkerton strikebreaker in the 1920 Anaconda miners’ strike. However, when the Pinkertons enlisted him to assassinate Native American IWW organizer Frank Little, he refused, and quit the agency. On 4/21/1920, guards opened fire on unarmed picketers, killing one and injuring sixteen, while vigilantes lynched Frank Little. Dashiell Hammett depicted the strike in his first novel, “Red Harvest.” André Gide called Red Harvest “the last word in atrocity, cynicism, and horror.” You can read my biography of Frank Little here: You can read my essay on the Pinkertons here: You can read my biography of Hammett here: #workingclass #LaborHistory #IWW #union #strike #mining #wages #unionbusting #books #fiction #franklittle #assassination #indigenous #nativeamerican #author #writer #dashiellhammett #pinkertons [@bookstadon]( ) image

7 countries have minimum wages that are double what the U.S. offers yet they are STILL poverty wages. However, raising the minimum wage in the U.S. to $17/hr, as proposed in the Raise the Wage Act of 2025, would impact 22,247,000 workers across the country, (15% of the U.S. wage-earning workforce) & provide an additional $70 billion annually in wages for the country’s poorest workers. And at the same time, a rise in minimum wage is generally accompanied by a ripple up effect, where wages for other workers also increase. https://www.epi.org/publication/rtwa-2025-impact-fact-sheet/ #workingclass #classwar #minimumwage image
