Today in Labor History November 22, 1909: The β€œUprising of the 20,000” occurred in New York, as female, mostly Jewish, garment workers went on strike for better pay and an end to sweatshop working conditions. It was also known as the Shirtwaist Strike. 19-year-old Clara Lemlich, who led the strike, said she had no patience for talk and called for her coworkers to join in a General Strike. She made this speech not long after leaving the hospital after thugs had beat her up. By February, their strike had won some gains for workers, like a raise and a reduction in work hours to 52 hours per week, but did not end sweatshop conditions in the industry. During the strike, a Judge told arrested picketers, "You are on strike against God." The Triangle Shirtwaist fire occurred one year later. In the black of the winter of nineteen-nine When we froze & bled on the picket line, We showed the world that women could fight & we rose & won with women's might. Hail the waistmakers of nineteen-nine Making their stand on the picket line, Breaking the power of those who reign, Pointing the way, smashing the chain. #workingclass #LaborHistory #shirtwaist #union #strike #jewish #immigrant #newyork #claralemlich #GeneralStrike #sweatshop #vigilantes #women image
Scientists, advocates now say that the CDC is no longer trustworthy, particularly in light of its recent new bogus claim that "studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism.” In reality, science has thoroughly refuted the claim that vaccines cause autism. And the doctor who first popularized this conspiracy theory, Andrew Wakefield, has had his medical license revoked for fabricating the evidence in his studies. According to Paul Offit, MD the CDC has devolved into β€œa propaganda machine for RFK Jr.'s fixed, immutable, science-resistant theories." Meanwhile, many of the rank and file in the MAHA movement are rebelling, saying RFK Jr isn't going far enough, or that he's being hamstrung by Big Pharma representatives in the Trump cabinet. Of course, it's not just lies being published on the CDC website. Most Americans don't ever look at that website. RFK has literally dismantled the public health system in the US, putting us all at greater risk of dying from preventable diseases and increasing the risk of deadly epidemics and pandemics. Consider that he pulled $500 million from vaccine development and he ousted and replaced every member of a federal vaccine advisory committe. And the few remaining scientists left at the CDC who monitor and study emerging diseases are at risk of being fired, at a time when highly pathogenic avian flu is surging again, and when chronic wasting disease (a prion disease similar to mad cow disease) is surging among deer and elk. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/maha-idealism-meets-political-reality-rfk-jr-attempts-127742842?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-us #publichealth #cdc #Maha #rfkjr #vaccines

Why so many Americans mistrust science? image
To be fair, humanity didn't make this choice. A tiny minority did. And they can have their power and wealth stripped away from them. A better world is possible. image

No, we're not fascists... Coast Guard reverses course: swastikas and nooses no longer classified as hate symbols; now classified as β€˜potentially divisive.’
Today in Labor History November 21, 1831: Silk workers went on strike in Lyon, France. However, when the National Guard killed several workers, the entire city soon rose up in an insurrection known as the First Canut Revolt. Workers captured the police barracks and stole the weapons. They set up barricades and hoisted the black flag. The military guard attempted to stop them, but had to retreat under a hail of bullets. National Guardsmen switched sides and joined the rebels. After a bloody battle with the military guard, in which over 170 died, the rebels captured the town. However, the authorities ultimately subdued the uprising when a much larger military force was sent in from Paris. #workingclass #LaborHistory #france #strike #insurrection #revolt #blackflag #massacre #police #barricades #rebellion image
