While I think an 80 person polycule is way too many people, once you read the article it’s clear that any open ended polycule is likely not bound to a specific number and instead it’s just “how many metamores do we know about” as you go out degrees of separation.

This is the kind of thing that could happen to Bluesky as well. A decentralized network can become over-reliant on the services provided by the core protocol provider. Looks like the backups works and they’re going to restore everything, but it is a warning sign for all of these protocols.

Nostr adopts MLS end to end encryption standard for groups. This is a huge step forward for private groups on permissionless social media protocols. Now we can have signal level encryption but for all kinds of social media. Thing signal meets Facebook groups or discord.

These age verification laws are in effect a lock-in that means we only can use Meta products, or from companies that will follow their economic model, and the idea of an open source open protocol solution is impossible. It’s all about combining state and corporate power.

If Bluesky is going to fulfill the dream that lead to its founding then it needs to grow to the point where the Bluesky company and app are not how most people use ATprotocol. This thread gets in to tons of projects and people who are doing this work.
