My oldest cat who yells at and scratches anyone she can has a soft spot for me. Sheβll lay down and place her head right up against my foot so that Iβll per her with it. Sheβll then sleep with my foot on her head.
You know what I'll never understand? Being against some rich asshole but still using the service that helps that person earn money.
It just boggles my mind.
It's hard to find humor the closer I get to the election. Which sucks because I feel I need my humor more then ever.
It's hard to laugh when you're facing the possible end of your country.
So for those who are new I have two rules when it comes to using Content Warnings...
1st rule...
I use CW's when I directly talk about food, politics, drugs, lewdness, and anything else that I think might cause distress if someone is having a hard time dealing with these things.
2nd rule...
If you post about any of the things above, I will not boost it unless it has a CW.
A LOT of people refuse to use CW's because they think it will get less attention. I care more about people than attention.
π Hello new followers!
Glad to have you aboard! Before we go any further, I IMPLORE YOU to read my profile especially my first two pinned posts.
(Just so you can't say that I didn't warn you.)
Got it? Great!
Now, on with the show!
Dear X refugees...
Welcome to the only Social Media service that is owned by THE PEOPLE and not some rich ass hat.
Mastodon is different then all of the others. Some things will be different, and some things will be the same. Don't let the usernames and different domains throw you. You'll catch on just like you did with email.
Spend a week here and I guarantee you that you'll wonder why you didn't know about this sooner? It happens to everyone.
If you have questions. Ask. Someone will help.
This is your reminder...
There is no algorithm that brings posts to your timeline. The only posts you will see under your Home tab will be either people that you follow, or the boosts from people that you follow.
BOOSTING IS THE LIFE BLOOD OF MASTODON.
If you read something that is interesting, funny, thought provoking, news worthy, or beautiful, then BOOST IT.
Hitting "Favorite" lets the poster know that you liked it BUT IT DOESN'T LET ANYONE ELSE KNOW.
Keep Mastodon alive. BOOST.
I've mentioned this before, and I think it needs repeating...
If you are on a social network that you are morally and ethically opposed to, FOR WHATEVER REASON, you are contributing to the growth and funding of that service.
Even if you never click on an ad.
Other then the Fediverse, social network services count your use, or even your visit, as traffic. They then take that number and use it to determine how much an advertiser should pay.
If you don't want it to grow. You shouldn't go.
