🚨The U.S. Secret Service uncovered and shut down a hidden network of devices across the New York tri-state area. The setup included more than 300 SIM servers and over 100,000 SIM cards, spread out in multiple locations. Investigators say it was being used to make threats against senior government officials. But it went beyond just phone calls. The equipment could disrupt cell towers, block communications through denial-of-service attacks, and give criminals or foreign agents a way to talk secretly without being traced. Early findings suggest that some of the activity involved contacts between nation-state actors and people already on law enforcement’s radar. The discovery came at a tense moment, just miles from where world leaders are gathering for the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
