I know things are tough for most people, so don't worry if you can't chip in right now. **A good friend of mine could use your support.** @npub1ch5s...jxkl has been developing free and open source software for a heck of a long time. If you've ever used Internet Radio before, there's a damn good chance you've used [AzuraCast]( ). They have a Ko-Fi goal of $2500. If any of you can chip in even $3 to help them, it is difficult to overstate the immense burden you'll be alleviating. I've tossed in $100 to get this started. Can we get them to their goal?
My favorite joke to tell people who are debugging JavaScript code: "Which this is this this?"
Yep, that is right on the nose.

If you're a BlueSky user, I would appreciate it if you would boost this: I don't know how to reach a TikTok audience, as I find short-form video content uncomfortable, so I never really used it. (Gives me headaches rather than stimulates my engagement.) The best I can do is try to use other platforms to get the conversation started, and hope TikTok users can take it from there. (The second post, which links to my latest blog post, is less important IMO but I appreciate any help you can offer.)
The news lately has just been this image
Something I've been thinking about for most of 2025, but haven't found a good way to solve, is the need to preserve history and educate each other in spite of what the fascists in power want. When they ban "Critical Race Theory" in public schools, there ought to be a decentralized system that folks can turn to to learn it without their school's permission. There were many atrocities against minority communities that never got discussed when I went to public school. I remember also needing a permission slip to learn about natural selection in biology class. In short, I think there ought to be a Pirate Systen of Education (and I don't just mean PDF scans of $400 textbooks). With the Straw Hat flag becoming an International symbol of freedom, I can't help but think about the scholars of Ohara from One Piece. Learning and preserving a forbidden history. Maybe this idea isn't mine to bring to fruition. So I'm letting it scatter to the wind. May someone clever and motivated make it bloom.
I wrote this in 2024: > If the Fediverse were to win, we would need the most popular software (Mastodon) to heavily focus on moderation tools yesterday. The tools need not only exist, the software updates need to propagate the network and instance admins learn to use them before the tidal wave of new users and their Twitter habits arrive. A few people have lamented Mastodon and other ActivityPub software for not supporting the same kind of "Lists" that BlueSky does (for following, muting, or blocking). This might be a good way to improve the user experience of Fedi and scale up to supporting 10x or even 100x the current population *without* overwhelming instance moderation efforts. If nothing else, it might be worth exploring. What do y'all think?
Insomnia is the leading cause of Wishing You Had Someone To Cuddle Right Now. This is a dhole fact.
Are You Under the Influence? The Tail That Wags TheΒ Dog It is tempting and forgivable to believe that we're in control of our social media experiences. After all, we write what we want in our bio, select our avatars, and even come up with our own handles. We decide who we follow, what we post, and which recommendations to consider. It never feels like we're not in the driver's seat the whole time, especially if you use…
