We have to bulld a new healthier open social web. The current closed, commercialized siloes are indeed a cancer. GOV. COX: "Social media has played a direct role in every single assassination and assassination attempt that we have seen over the last 5, 6 years. There is no question... Cancer probably isn't a strong enough word. What we have done especially to our kids, it took us decade to realize how evil these algorithms are." https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meet-press-september-14-2025-n1312719
This is my priors on this too, btw. But we will see what we see. As i said before believe nothign you don’t see validated by trusted sources. #charliekirk image
Mental note: do not trust anything on this story until it is verified by trustwothy sourcing. Just wait. #charliekirk image
Very well put.
✊ Am happy to endorse this statement - along with many thought leaders from both #ATProto and #ActivityPub sides of the Open Social Web dev community…
A small but big thing: every profile UX on the open social web should copy #Threads: Show the full handle w/ domain plus a “Copy” button in account details. None do now—Mastodon, Bluesky, PixelFed, etc. Only Threads does, and it’s a must-have. image
First real study of #Threads-#Fediverse interop at scale. Key bits: Fedi→Threads replies dominate (likely due to current UX on Threads for fedi), surges tied to rollout events, steady growth, & interop didn’t worsen convo tone. Early but encouraging data:
It's never ending. But so should our community push to keep us all safe from crap like this: Boost and share this around to all servers.
All the more need for the open social web, & discovery services like @Flipboard & @npub1ekk7...vy6m -- "The number of sessions resulting from Google Search traffic has declined to 28% from 52%...The decline has prompted People Inc. to internally use the term 'Google Zero.' ...'OK, we need to aggregate audience from as many sources as possible, ...What happens if Google goes to zero? What happens if Google no longer sends us traffic?'" https://seekingalpha.com/news/4483889-companies-find-new-avenues-to-drive-up-sessions-as-googles-ai-search-tools-reduce-web-traffic
