I've learned that the writers of Warhammer 40k have given up anything resembling a timeline. They refuse to acknowledge they've written themselves into M42 and instead declared that time is both non-canonical and non-deterministic. It's hard to take world building seriously when it's obvious the writers are more concerned with maintaining stagnation than actually ever saying anything.
