Or, hear me out, the bill is an unconstitutional censorial mess that Trump himself has promised to abuse to take down content he doesn't like. Multiple experts offered to help you fix the bill and you ignored them all. This makes you a part of the problem. RE:
Hey @npub19pz8...yaz7, going to assume you have some thoughts about this executive order: [www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...]( ) [Strengthening and Unleashing A...]( )
Update on this. Apparently the bill just passed the House... 409-2. So, uh, yeah. A ton of Dems just gave the Trump FTC more power to censor the internet. Great job guys. RE: View quoted note →
Had seen the news about [@thedispatchmedia.bsky.social]( ) acquiring [@scotus-blog.bsky.social]( ), but had missed this tidbit, which is extremely disappointing. Would hope The Dispatch would reconsider. Embracing open access to knowledge is important, especially for something like SCOTUSblog. https://oyster.us-east.host.bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:cak4klqoj3bqgk5rj6b4f5do&cid=bafkreib2fl2rbtvvpwunwhgsdqtpgxyjziiuwszwbuycgbhabgbs6jfxby
Also, I compare how The Free Press covered the (misleading-to-false) story of the Biden admin "censoring" social media, to how they handled the (leaked directly to them) very real censorship attack on Wikipedia by Ed Martin. Spoiler: there are some differences. [www.techdirt.com/2025/04/28/g...]( ) [Government Actually Threatens ...]( )
Take It Down Act is a total censorial mess. And yet, a ton of "progressive" Dems are supporting it, even as it will enable the highly politicized and weaponized FTC to go after websites and demand content be removed from the internet. Katsas voting this way is big news... and very unexpected. RE:
Everything Radley said. Except he means "censorial" not "censorious." And, yes, this is the most pedantic hill I will die on. But, Brendan Carr, who Trump declared was a "free speech warrior" is the most anti-free speech FCC commissioner ever. RE: View quoted note →
One more thought on this. Smith's piece notes that the chats he describes are almost all dudes, with just a few token non-dudes. Every active group chat I'm in is significantly more diverse, which likely plays a part in them not descending into adolescent stupidity. RE: View quoted note →
Yeah. I'm in a few too many group chats myself, and while I have seen memes show up in some, none of gone towards what Marc describes. The ones I'm in that involve memes tend to focus on obscure in-jokes and such, not anything offensive. RE:
