I posted last night about why I thought both sides looked bad in Elon's fight with Brazil, and a lot of people (especially in Brazil) didn't like that. So I've written a longer explanation. The key point: compare Elon/Brazil to old Twitter/India. [www.techdirt.com/2024/08/29/e...]( ) [Elon’s Standoff With Brazil Re...]( )
Anyone speak French *AND* understand the basics of legal liability around intermediaries and encryption, because the charges against Durov have been released, and I'm not sure Google translate helps me with the important nuances here. What an incredibly unsurprising turn of events. But, seriously, if you're still advertising on ExTwitter, you know that this is a risk. Spare me the "oh we're pulling ads because we just found out about this." [www.cbsnews.com/news/world-b...]( ) [World Bank halts paid advertis...]( )

Wrote about how ad revenue at ExTwitter is still in freefall as we near the end of the 2nd year of Elon's control. Ad revenue is now down somewhere between 75 and 85% depending on which reports you're looking at. Also, he promised investors he'd double ad revenue by 2028.

Getting pretty sick of the media simply repeating the obviously false claim that Musk is a "free speech absolutist." He is not, and never has been. Indeed, he regularly attacks free speech with lawsuits or caving to authoritarian gov't demands. [www.techdirt.com/search/?q=fr...]( ) RE: [Search Techdirt.]( ) View quoted note →
So, kid started high school today, and in every class they have "phone pockets" for kids to put their phones into, and apparently some teachers take attendance based on phones in the pockets. Only problem: kid doesn't have a phone. Not sure what to make of this.
Today in things I absolutely was not expecting. [storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...](📄.pdf ) https://oyster.us-east.host.bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:cak4klqoj3bqgk5rj6b4f5do&cid=bafkreidpaisvkirass5ckmi5zx5dkrmlxzersq7go4uenuu6an5zlmteru
