It's important to acknowledge that English is a legacy of colonialism, originating from a global empire that historically invaded nations, exploited resources, and inflicted atrocities in pursuit of wealth through practices like genocide and slave labor.
However, the role of a "common language" in facilitating trade and cooperation between countries cannot be overlooked. In that sense, English offers certain advantages.
Yet, no nation should undermine its own cultural identity by diminishing its traditional language or abandoning it in favor of a more dominant language.
For instance, the practice in Germany of more and more prioritizing English for administrative procedures for immigrants raises concerns about its own cultural respect and identity. 🇩🇪
At the same time you could disagree and argue that without English, the UAE 🇦🇪 and Dubai would still be a tent camp of camel farmers. 🐫
