I get that people may think that Loops is simply a TikTok clone.
But a clone wouldn't ship 26k LoC to add ActivityPub support*, publish all source code under AGPL, or support full data export and migration.
Most TikTok competitors are driven by financial motives, whereas Loops isn't.
This matters. A lot.
You can't serve two masters β either you serve your people, or you serve the money.
We chose people. β€οΈ
Gen Z doesn't want your Twitter clone lol.
They've already chosen: Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok. That's their language.
If the fediverse stays stuck building for our generation, we've already lost.
They need alternatives built for them, not us.
Good thing we've got Sup, Pixelfed and Loops fr fr π―
#fediverse #noCap
I know that's a big claim, Loops becoming the keystone fediverse project and liberating a whole generation from big tech.
I guess you'll just have to see it happen π
Pixelfed is my baby, but Loops is the bridge to digital sovereignty for millions who don't even know they need it yet.
Let's show them how it's done π
Loops will do for the fediverse what the iPhone did for smartphones.
It's not just open and federated β it's gorgeous.
That combination is unstoppable. Young creators want freedom, not overlords β we're stealing an entire generation from Big Tech.
Welcome to the next chapter of the social web.
Itβs not finished. Itβs not perfect. But itβs real. π₯Ή
Loops is now open, built in public, and growing every day β laying the groundwork for a future where you can build your own TikTok.
A future where governments canβt censor you. Where corporations canβt control the conversation. Where the social web belongs to the people again.
This is how it starts. β
They want you to think βSkylightβ is the future of short-form video.
But itβs just another closed, investor-owned clone.
Loops is different:
π± open source
π federated
βοΈ production-ready
π better ToS
π full API docs
π± official app coming soon
I kept my word β no VC money, no walled gardens.
Because we deserve a real TikTok alternative, built for the people. β€οΈ
Loops urls are apparently not favoured by app developers because they don't look like urls from other software.
That's okay.
It's intentional, we don't include usernames in urls because we plan to support username changes, and our comment permalinks are shorter than a Mastodon actor url, and it's gorgeous.
Loop Post:
I can't believe Loops is finally federating π
I spent the past year building up to this, and I couldn't have done this without your support.
Thank you β€οΈ
